The Dangers of Vaping

Jasmyn Clark, reporter

What is a vape? A vape is a cigarette-shaped device containing a nicotine-based liquid that is vaporized and inhaled, used to simulate the experience of smoking tobacco. One popular vape brand is known as JUUl. Let’s go back in time. The vape was an idea originally created by Joseph Robinson in 1927,  but it became popular in 1963 because of Herbert Gilbert. So, how did it become modern? Hon Lik was the first Chinese man to create a modern e-cigarette in the mid-2000s. So, what are the dangers???  I’m going to tell you a story. It may already have been told, but I’m going to tell you the story anyways. This is the story of Simah Herman. Simah Herman used to vape a nicotine cartridge a day. Simah Herman, 18, became an anti-vaping advocate after surviving a severe lung illness that caused her to be placed in a medically induced coma – one of several recent incidents linked to vaping. Because of Simah’s addictive vaping, she was placed on life support for vaping. With her vaping, she found herself in the fight for her life. Even though she was vaping, she became an advocate against vaping. It only took TWO days for her lungs to fail. This is the story of Simah Herman. Because of vaping, it’s become a worldwide health crisis. So, when you vape you may find yourself in the fight for your life. Don’t vape!
