Treats for Pets

Treats for Pets

Corynn Espenshade, reporter

Most of us have a pet and like to give them treats. Maybe you spoil your cat or dog with treats every day, or you give them one occasionally. No matter what though, you want the treats to be safe and healthy. You want to make sure that the treats aren’t the problem, when they act stranger than usual.

Cat treats

Most of the time, we feed Mr. Whiskers treats, or maybe we always have his food bowl full all the time to where he eats 8 meals a day. There are always better options for your kitty though. When you make yourself eggs, make some for your kitty (just don’t add salt or seasoning to theirs). It is a good source of protein. Give them a small amount of it at first because they might not like it and be picky. Do that with all treats or snacks. Veggies and fruit are good things, but most of the cats don’t like them. They have water to help with their digestive systems and vitamins. Meat helps them with good vision and helps them improve their sight, and have a healthy reproductive system. Some things that are toxic and you DO NOT want your cat to eat are bread dough, chocolate, grapes, and raisins.

Dog treats

My dogs’ stomachs are picker than most kids. Some dogs will eat it what you give to them, no matter what. Sometimes we give them a treat at night, or we give our dogs a treat once a month. We give puppies a treat whenever they learn a new trick. But are the treats that you are giving them good for their bodies? Eggs are also a good source of  protein, just like a cats. When you are training your puppy, give them some peas, but heat them up a little bit, or they won’t get the nutrition that they need. Peas provide them with a lot of the vitamins and nutrients that they need. Apples are also good for them, but make sure to cut them up and don’t give them the core! Apples give dogs the fiber that they need. Give them a little at first, to see if they like it. There are somethings that you don’t want to give your dogs, as well like avocado, chocolate, coffee, and grapes.
